Prof. Bence Viola’s research has been in recent headlines. The CBC, New York Times, and National Geographic have all written about the large, unusual teeth discovered at Denisova Cave, Siberia, by an international team of researchers. Genetic analysis suggests that Denisovans lived in Eurasia for tens of thousands of years alongside modern humans and Neanderthals. The findings greatly contribute to our understanding of where Denosovans fit in the human family tree, and have been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (doi: 10.1073/pnas.1519905112).
