The Department congratulates Professor Janelle Taylor for being selected as a recipient of the 2024 Arts & Science Dean's Research Excellence Award, granted each year to mid-career faculty in recognition of significant and sustained research achievement and impact.
Taylor has received this award in recognition of her accomplishments as a leading figure in the field of medical anthropology, with a sustained record of creative and impactful contributions to both sociocultural anthropology and applied health research. Her research is unusual for the range of topics addressed, methods employed, genres and formats employed, and for its interdisciplinary and public reach. Her writing is widely admired, and her work has been presented in more than forty peer-reviewed articles and chapters, as well as an edited volume and a prizewinning monograph. These have addressed many topics relating to biomedicine in North Amercia, including: fetal ultrasound imaging, medical education, and medical decisionmaking.
